CMC Youth
Youth group
The youth group is a group of young climbers aged 14 -18 who are driven to find a pathway into mountaineering.
It's a place for like-minded people to connect and learn together.
The CMC youth group is youth-led and supported by an amazing team of expereinced mountaineering mentors who provide guidance and support.
CMC youth regularly runs events like:
Youth skills nights (before the club night), often including teaching around knots, rope skills avalanche awareness and trip planning.
Climbing nights, a great way to meet other younger climbers who are also looking for adventure.
Youth trips, a mix of youth-led and mentor-supported trips into the Port Hills and main divide.
alongside a youth-only chat where members plan trips with the support of experienced mentors.
We encourage those who are signing up to have CMC membership

School visits
The CMC regularly runs free visits to local schools throughout the Canterbury region.
Our school visits are designed to inspire students through stories of adventure, teamwork, and resilience as well as introducing them to basic skills and concepts of mountaineering.
We aim to connect young people with nature, promote physical activity, and encourage confidence—all while introducing the exciting world of mountaineering in a safe, engaging way
If you or somebody you might know would be interested in a class visit from our team contact us at
